Name
- Type I:
- Transverse fracture thru maxillary sinus and pterygoid plates
- Complications-loss of teeth, infection, malocclusion
- Type II:
- Separation thru frontal process, lacrimal bones, floor of orbits, zygomaticomaxillary suture line, lateral wall of maxillary sinus and pterygoid plates
- Complications include nonunion, malunion, lacrimal system obstruction, infraorbital nerve anesthesia, diplopia
- Type III:
- Separation of mid third of face at zygomaticotemporal and naso-frontal sutures, and across the orbital floors
- Complications include nonunion, malunion, malocclusion, lengthening of mid face, and lacrimal system obstruction
Necessary Procedures
- Specify type of fracture treatment with or without bone graft or implant, tracheostomy, cricothyroidotomy, mechanical ventilation (less than 24 hrs, 24-96 hrs, over 96 hours)
Other
- Any additional trauma, without or with loss of consciousness (specify time frame for LOC)
Why
- Airway obstruction, acute blood loss anemia, respiratory failure (specify acuity)
