  • Type of atrial fibrillation:
    • Paroxysmal-episodes end spontaneously within 7 days; most last less than 24 hours
    • Persistent-episodes last more than 7 days; illustrates increased SOI
    • Chronic (permanent) -AFib has lasted more than 1 year regardless if cardioversion attempted or not

Name

  • Differentiate if patient has either AFib or atrial flutter or both

Necessary Procedures

  • Persistent AFib may require cardioversion or pharmacologic intervention
