Inspect PPE ensemble for visible contamination, cuts or tears.
If present, disinfect with bleach wipe.
Note-appropriate EPA registered disinfectant wipe can be substituted for bleach wipe.

3 Disinfect gloves
Doffer wipes the outer gloves with a bleach wipe.
Allow to dry.
Dispose of wipes in RED isolation trash can.
4 Remove apron
Doffer turns back to Protector.
Protector assists with untying/cutting and lifting neck strap.
Doffer rolls the apron inside to the outside.
Dispose of apron in RED isolation trash can.
5 Disinfect gloves
Protector and Doffer wipe the outer gloves with a bleach wipe.
Allow to dry.
Dispose of wipes in RED isolation trash can.
6 Remove shoe covers (if Crocs worn) or boots

Use chair as needed.
Stand in the Hot Zone at the edge of the Warm Zone.
Slide one foot out of the shoe cover and step that foot into the Warm Zone.
Dispose of shoe cover in RED isolation trash can.
Slide the other foot out of the shoe cover and step that foot into the Warm Zone.
Dispose of shoe cover in RED isolation trash can.
If boots were used
Remove tape and boots in Hot Zone.
Place boot in boot bucket, stepping into Warm Zone as boot is removed.
7 Remove Crocs

Once inside the Warm Zone, remove Crocs and place them in designated container.
8 Disinfect gloves
Protector and Doffer wipe the outer gloves with a bleach wipe.
Allow to dry.
Dispose of wipes in RED isolation trash can.
9 Remove outer gloves

Grasp one glove and slowly peel it off and discard. If preferred, the first glove can be balled in the palm of the second hand prior to removing the second glove.
Slide fingers inside the second cuff, and slowly peel the glove off (without touching the outside) and discard.
10 Inspect and disinfect inner gloves
Inspect and disinfect inner gloves with bleach wipe.
Allow to dry.
Dispose of wipes in RED isolation trash can.
If an inner glove is torn, disinfect the glove with bleach wipe. Then remove the inner gloves, perform hand hygiene, and don a new pair of gloves.
11 If coverall has a sewn-in hood, then remove the face shield
Doffer leans forward.
Remove the face shield by grasping the elastic band in the back and lifting forward and off.
Dispose of in RED isolation trash can.
12 If coverall does not have a sewn-in hood, then untie the surgical hood

Protector stands behind the Doffer.
Protector unties the surgical hood and hands the strings forward to Doffer.
13 If coverall does not have a sewn-in hood, then remove hood, face shield, and shower cap as one unit

Doffer bends forward.
Doffer grabs the top edge of the hood (Protector can assist), and removes the face shield, hood and shower cap as one unit away from body.
Items can also be removed individually if preferred.
Dispose of items in RED isolation trash can.
14 Disinfect gloves
Protector and Doffer wipe the outer gloves with a bleach wipe.
Allow to dry.
Dispose of wipes in RED isolation trash can.
15 Remove tape from glove cuff

Doffer or Protector removes tape from coverall sleeve and inner glove, rolling slowly and balling up the tape.
Dispose of shoe cover in RED isolation trash can.
16 Unseal and unzip coverall
Doffer or Protector pulls off zipper cover.
17 Remove coverall

Protector lifts coverall off shoulders.
Doffer balls up fists and pulls arms out of the coverall one at a time, while Protector pulls coverall down towards the feet.
As Doffer removes feet from coverall, Doffer steps further into Warm Zone.
Dispose of coverall in RED isolation trash can, touching only inside of coverall.
18 Disinfect gloves
Protector and Doffer wipe the outer gloves with a bleach wipe.
Allow to dry.
Dispose of wipes in RED isolation trash can.
19 Remove gloves
Grasp one glove and slowly peel it off and discard. If preferred, the first glove can be balled in the palm of the second hand prior to removing the second glove.
Slide fingers inside the second cuff, and slowly peel the glove off (without touching the outside) and discard.
20 Perform hand hygiene
Use alcohol based hand rub.
21 Don new gloves
Safety Officer provides a fresh pair of gloves for Doffer to don.
22 Remove the N95 respirator

Tilt head forward.
Use both hands to grab the lower strap, pull to the sides, then over head.
Use both hands to grab the upper strap, pull to the sides, then over head.
Dispose of mask in RED isolation trash can.
Alternate Method:
Tilt head slightly forward.
Grasp first the lower strap, then the upper strap, and remove without touching the front of the N95 respirator. The bottom edge of the mask may be touched as needed.
Dispose of mask in RED isolation trash can.
23 Disinfect gloves
Protector and Doffer wipe the outer gloves with a bleach wipe.
Allow to dry.
Dispose of wipes in RED isolation trash can.
24 Remove bouffant hair covering
If applicable.
25 Disinfect gloves
Protector and Doffer wipe the outer gloves with a bleach wipe.
Allow to dry.
Dispose of wipes in RED isolation trash can.
26 Remove outer socks
Stand in the Warm Zone at the edge of the Cold Zone.
Remove outer socks one at a time by pulling on sides while stepping into the Cold Zone.
27 Remove inner gloves
Grasp one glove and slowly peel it off and discard. If preferred, the first glove can be balled in the palm of the second hand prior to removing the second glove.
Slide fingers inside the second cuff, and slowly peel the glove off (without touching the outside) and discard.
28 Perform hand hygiene
Wash hands first with hand gel and then with soap and water for 30 seconds.
29 Complete final inspection
Safety Officer performs a final inspection.
If there is any indication of contamination of the surgical scrubs or disposable garment, immediately notify an infection control professional.
30 Complete medical monitoring
Rehydrate and perform medical monitoring including vital signs check.
